Let’s start with the basics here – what is a resin driveway? Resin based surfaces are a relatively new feature in the paving industry in the UK. In commercial settings they’ve been around for a while but in the domestic market they’re a more recent form of surfacing. Basically a resin drive surface is a gravel driveway that is fixed – or glued – in place using epoxy or polymer resins. The transparent resin helps to create a very strong, hard-wearing surface that should – when installed properly – last for years.
Apart from being hard-wearing, resin drive surfaces can survive well in a wide range of temperatures. The range of colours is extremely broad, different sized aggregates can create pattern through texture and designs can also be created using different coloured gravels; adding a real star quality to your external surfaces.
Choice is great but sometimes you can be faced with too many choices when looking for the perfect decorative driveway! Aggregates come in just about every colour you can imagine, and many suppliers can offer hundreds of choices in colour. Additionally, many more options can be created by mixing different gravels together to create subtle (or not so subtle) new colours. So, you’ll be spoilt for choice, but some basic rules can help.
Start with the nature of your property. If it’s an older home – subtle, elegant mixes of soft, darker colours may be the most appropriate. Natural looking mixes are popular, but with the right property funky designs can work too! Motifs, numbers and patterns are easy to create with a resin drive surface – you can even incorporate your house number if you want!
Don’t rush, is another crucial piece of advice! Take time to create your perfect design; if the driveway company you use do their job well the surface will be sticking around for a long time.
The driveway company is another important aspect of making the right choice for your resin drive surface. In commercial settings the technique has a longer history, but many new companies are getting into the market. Resin drive surfaces should be installed by a company with the most experience possible.
