We address some key questions from homeowners that might be considering a resin bound driveway.
What are the advantages of a resin bound driveway over a traditional surface?
A resin bound surface is a mixture of aggregates, which are mixed and fully coated in resin and then applied to a series of layers (more details are available here: https://www.yorkshire-resin-company.co.uk/surfaces)
Traditional driveway surfaces such as concrete may have joints cut into the surface where weeds are likely to grow. What’s more, a lack of drainage can result in standing water, which, if allowed to freeze and then thaw, can result in cracks to the surface. Drainage installation may be necessary, if no natural drainage is present.
A resin bound surface prevents weed growth, and is water permeable, eliminating puddles on the surface and aiding flood prevention. Resin offers a durable alternative to traditional surface materials, which requires little maintenance and lasts for many years.
Can a resin bound driveway be laid over my existing drive?
This really depends on the type of surface and condition of your existing driveway.
A solid sub-base must be in place, to act as a foundation for the resin. Concrete or tarmac can be used, though block paving is not a viable option.
A smooth surface with no cracks, no loose gravel and no movement may be appropriate for resin to be laid straight over it. If, however, there is movement in the concrete or tarmac, or it is displaying signs of wear, it could cause the resin to crack.
