The Great British Garden Spruce Up
With the whole of the country on lockdown due to covid-19 what better way to join in with The Great British Garden Spruce Up that started yesterday (April 27) and will run to the end of May.
As a country we are spending more time in our gardens, more than we ever did, a combination of the lockdown and the beautiful recent weather. “Gardner’s World” presenter, Mark Lane, set up the challenge of “The Great British Spruce Up”.
In the month of May, Mark Lane want’s everyone to spend more time in the garden and spruce it up, just 30 minutes a day cleaning and sprucing up the garden, after all it won’t be long before summer.
The creative idea is family friendly and designed to get people in the garden and involves things like upcycling old plant pots to cleaning the garden furniture.
Gardening has many benefits for us both mental and physical, it’s been shown throw research that on average digging in the garden for 30 minutes can burn up to 150 calories and mowing the lawn 165.
“Mark Lane” says that he knows this is a worrying time for many across the country, but “being out in the garden has the ability not only to keep you physically fit, but it is also great for improving mental health and wellbeing too”.
“May is one of the best months on the gardening calendar with the longer days and warmer weather, so we encourage you to make the most of this time”
