      5. Resin and the ‘City of Culture’

As part of a growing ‘City of Culture’, Yorkshire Resin Company are proud to be based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

The city has recently been awarded over £3.2 million from the Cultural Destinations fund, and is hoping to use this money to become ‘the creative hub of the North’*. As part of the strategic growth plan, a number of local attractions are being redeveloped – The Hepworth, for example, is currently developing a 6000 square metres ‘riverside garden.’

This represents a significant opportunity for local architects, who will be involved in the design and development of Wakefield’s public spaces.

So how can resin play its part in the ‘City of Culture’? In this article, we take you through some of the key architectural benefits of resin bound applications.

The aesthetics of public spaces are crucial, and resin offers a range of design choices for architects.  Whereas concrete and tarmac offer limit design options, resin bound surfaces are available in a variety of colour options (including bespoke shapes and patterns), and can be adapted to suit the wider environment.

Rubber crumb represents another option – available in a range of colours, rubber crumb surfaces are ideally suited to public spaces such as playgrounds due to their safety and durability.

As well as being extremely durable, resin bound surfaces are water-permeable, reducing the risk of flooding and ice formation, and provide a skid resistant, anti-slip surface – a key safety feature for public spaces.

Resin offers a durable alternative to traditional surface materials, which requires little maintenance, and lasts for many years.

As Wakefield becomes the Art Hub of the North, architects will be central to the redevelopment of the city. As a proud producer and installer of resin bound surfaces, Yorkshire Resin Company firmly believes that resin provides the flexibility and durability required to enhance these public spaces.
