York has recently been ear marked to be potentially be the home the second seat of government, with a possible site for a relocated House of Lords being identified. But Downing Street would like to take this further.
Reported in The Times, ministers have expressed the creation of a regional hub of civil servants around the UK, with York being the front runner.
It was first discussed at the very start of the year, but is still being discussed with no real momentum showing as yet. Relocating ‘The Lords’ would be quite a thing however it could be more likely that the Home Office will relocate.
Boris Johnson the Prime Minister himself has also been reported as saying he thinks he’s really, really keen on the idea. When the new HS2 lines are in operation it will take just an hour and half to travel between York and the Capital by train.
Some top Senior Civil servants have also been reportedly already been looking at what they can buy for the equivalent of a terraced house in East Dulwich in comparison within York and the surrounding areas and they liked what they saw.
