      5. What is the best surface for a steep driveway?

Don’t worry – you’re not the first of our customers who we have come across with a steep driveway and you certainly won’t be the last. A lot of properties with age do tend to have steep driveways, which were installed before cars were commonplace. This can cause a number of challenges, and means that choosing the right surface is even more important than usual.

Although other options are available other than resin, you can rule out some surfaces purely based on the requirements of the driveway.

Some common disadvantages of a steep driveway include:

      • Reversing can often be challenging – a steep sloping gradient can be a recipe for disaster when combined with bad weather conditions such as ice and snow
      • Like the above but even in warmer weather a steep driveway can sometimes cause tyres to slip and spin
      • If the subbase is not installed correctly, over time the driveway surface will crack and begin to break up, exascerbated by the steep angle
      • Drainage can be an issue – a steep driveway will take water away and down the driveway, but if the surface is not SUDs compliant, you’ll find water collecting in pools at the bottom of the incline causing waterlogged areas.

So why chose resin over other surface choices?

Other surfaces are available, some maybe even a cheaper option, but you’ll find that resin is the best solution for you and below we’ll discuss the reasons why.

Gravel – Great when it comes to being SUDs compliant, however you’ll find that you’ll need to replace the gravel often due the aggregates disappearing down the slope and beyond.

Concrete – Not the best solution for wet, cold weather at the best of times but combined with a steep slope it can be potentially dangerous for both vehicles and pedestrians alike.

Tarmac – The initial installation could prove quite difficult when it comes to the installation of the driveway correctly to correct standards and requirements, meaning problems could occur later down the line.

The final verdict is if you’ve a steep driveway then best solution is that of a resin driveway, we’ll also provide you with a full 10 year guarantee for the extra piece of mind.
